Bacoli Staycation

We have been incredibly lucky while stationed abroad that we have traveled almost entirely over four day weekends and have not used PTO, or leave, for our trips. Our four day weekends always fall over US federal holidays. Sometimes, however, it happens that my partner is on duty and we are not able to travel out of our local area. This happened over Labor Day weekend last year and instead of hanging out around the house we decided to do a staycation in the town right next to ours at a hotel we had been wanting to check out: Cala Moresca.

We didn’t stay in the actual hotel but in the apartments next to the hotel, which were absolutely beautiful. We still had access to all the hotel amenities like breakfast, the restaurant and bar, the wellness terrace, and the pool.

Here is how we spent out staycation weekend:

Thursday

  • Drop the dog off with her petsitter on the way to work

  • Check into Cala Moresca after work

  • Head down to Bacoli and have tapas at Origini

  • Walk around the main street in Bacoli

  • Get gelato in the Villa Communale and play on the playground before heading back to the hotel

Friday

  • Wake up and have breakfast on the terrace enjoying the beautiful views looking back at Monte di Procida and the islands

  • Take the kiddo to summer camp at Arcobalù (a fantastic indoor play place in Monte di Procida)

  • Enjoy adult-only time and book the “wellness path”

    • This is really just dedicated time for you to enjoy the sauna, jacuzzi, and “spa” amenities on the “relax” terrace but it was €10 and worth it

  • Pick the kiddo up from camp and have lunch by the pool (the octopus salad and French fries is a 12/10 lunch and I will not be taking questions)

  • Late nap

  • Apertivo at Cala Moresca to enjoy sunset views

  • Takeaway pizza from down the hill (Cafe Miseno) for dinner

Saturday

  • Spend the day at the pool

  • Dinner at the hotel restaurant — enjoy dressing up and making a night of it! Start with a drink at the bar for sunset and then move to dinner.

Sunday

  • Head straight to the pool to enjoy it until check-out

  • Pack up and check out

  • Head home to unload the car and shower

  • Lunch at Il Cetrangolo with friends

    • This is one of my favorite spots in all of Campi Flegrei and has incredible views, fantastic service, and delicious food. You can make reservations via WhatsApp. They are actually located right above Cala Moresca on Capo Miseno. If I had to pick one place in this area to live other than where we live right now, it would be out on Miseno.
