Procida Day Trip
Just a short ferry ride from Naples, Pozzuoli, or Monte di Procida, the tiny island of Procida is a perfect summer escape. Named Italian Capital of Culture in 2022, this colorful fishing island offers sandy beaches, rocky swimming coves, and postcard-worthy views of the Marina di Corricella.
On my latest visit with local expert Rossella Scotto, we started at Dal Cavaliere for the famous lingua di Procida—a flaky, lemon-filled pastry—and a refreshing caffè Leccese. We wandered through charming streets, took in sweeping views of pastel houses, and spent the afternoon swimming, surrounded by volcanic cliffs and turquoise waters.
Before catching the evening ferry back, we browsed boutiques for handmade ceramics, local books, and unique souvenirs. Whether you’re looking for the best beaches in Procida, iconic pastries, or simply a slower pace, this island will win your heart in just one day.
Sicily: Trapani + Aegadian Islands
After nearly three years of living in Southern Italy, we finally made it to Sicily—and I’m already planning our return. We spent a long weekend exploring Western Sicily, basing ourselves near Trapani with highlights including a dreamy boat trip to the Aegadian Islands (Favignana and Levanzo), a beach day in San Vito Lo Capo, and wandering the hilltop medieval village of Erice. From where to stay, what to eat (including Trapani’s best arancine and gelato), and tips for planning your Sicily itinerary with kids, I’m sharing our favorite moments, local recommendations (grazie di cuore Tony!), and everything you need to know to plan a memorable family trip to this stunning corner of Italy.
